Hurt VA – tiny little town in the hills and woods of west-south Virginia in Pittsylvania County on the south bank of the Roanoke River (they call it Staunton).
I decided to go there because Hurt is my last name and I figured some connection must exist.
I entered Hurt, VA, driving southward across the Staunton River from Altavista at night. It looked different in the daylight.
I met George Files at the strip mall Ramp church. He and his family put me up for the night across the river in their Altavista Home. George lives in Florida now.
Some at the church thought me unusual – they’d never met anyone with the Hurt last name.
